This article provides you general information about StudyReel and the recommended hardware and setup process
About StudyReel
StudyReel is a product designed to help students make the most of their learning experience by incorporating comprehensive tracking and AI-based analysis of student performance to deliver on-point AI-generated student coaching.
Operating Systems Supported
- The StudyReel Native App is available for Windows and MacOS. To get the most out of StudyReel with the smoothest experience, we recommend using Windows or MacOS.
- Alternatively, StudyReel also supports ChromeOS (Chromebooks) through the StudyReel Chrome Extension. The downside of this option is that the user will be required to grant screen/audio-sharing permission before every learning session.
Hardware recommendation
- Optimal Laptop Specifications: We advise new schools to use Windows laptops equipped with an i5+ processor and 16GB+ RAM for the best experience. You can find several options here, for your reference.
- Utilizing Existing Resources: If the school already possesses laptops that meet these specifications, or Mac computers with at least an Intel Core i5 processor (or M1/M2 chip) and 16GB of RAM, we highly recommend their use for the project.
- Alternative Option (for Havruta): If acquiring new laptops isn't feasible or time is a constraint, our Alpha team can provide 3 Chromebooks that are fully set up and ready for immediate use in this initial experiment.
- Flexibility in Transition: StudyReel can seamlessly shift to a new machine when available, allowing for a flexible approach to equipment use and upgrades.
Setting up StudyReel on your computer
Once you have your 2hr-Learning credentials, all you need to do is download and run the StudyReel Auto-Installer on your Windows or Mac computer. Find the download links below:
The auto-installer will guide you through the installation process, step by step.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Although all the main antivirus providers have approved and whitelisted StudyReel, in some rare cases your Windows antivirus may interfere with the StudyReel installation process. If you encounter any issues, try removing StudyReel (instructions in the next section), deactivating/uninstalling your antivirus and running the StudyReel Auto-Installer again.
- The StudyReel Auto-Installer creates a dedicated 2hr Learning OS user profile on your laptop, to provide an immersive 2hr Learning experience;
- The “2hr Learning” OS user profile will be continuously tracked by StudyReel (webcam, mic, screen-sharing) until the student signs off. Comprehensive tracking is what allows StudyReel to know what students are struggling with and produce on-point, AI-generated coaching advice to help them overcome their struggles;
- Once a learning session is over, students can sign off of their dedicated “2hr Learning” OS user profile and switch back to their main OS user profile, thus stopping the StudyReel tracker.
Removing StudyReel from your Computer
The recommended approach for permanently removing StudyReel from your computer is to delete the dedicated “2hr Learning” OS user profile altogether. This is a simple process that takes seconds. If you don’t know how to delete an OS user profile, please consult the web pages below:
Please note that removing StudyReel will compromise your ability to use our 2hr Learning products (eg.: you will no longer be able to log into Dash or will encounter issues when attempting to).
