SPEEDRUN Contest - Understanding the MAP Growth Test

Introduction

This article aims to provide clarity on the role of the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth Test within the SPEEDRUN contest. While the IXL Universal Screener sets the initial learning path and grade level recommendation, the MAP Growth Test plays a crucial role in validating learning progress.

The MAP Growth Test: A Tool for Validation

The MAP Growth Test is an assessment tool used to validate a student's learning progress. It is administered by NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association).

Key Functions of the MAP Test

  • Third-Party Validation: The MAP test is used to objectively assess a student's learning progress before and after participating in a contest or completing a learning module.
  • Protection of Grade Level Advancement: One of the critical functions of the MAP test is to safeguard the integrity of grade-level advancement.

Role in the SPEEDRUN contest

  • No Impact on Bracketing: It is important to note that the MAP Growth Test results do not affect the student's placement in different brackets or groups within the contest.
  • Grade Level Advancement: Although the MAP test does not directly influence bracketing, it is crucial for confirming a student's readiness to advance to the next grade level.

How the MAP Test Complements the IXL Screener

After going through the IXL Universal Screener to set the initial learning path, and choosing the grade level based on the screener's recommendation, the students must go through the MAP Growth Test.

The MAP Growth Test is administered in order to validate the learning progress, as it will be again taken by the student at the end of their SPEEDRUN journey.
